About custom properties

Properties are the smallest containers within Project Portal for storing information. Properties are sometimes called fields. Project Portal property definitions are grouped together within property sets. A property set contains properties that are used by the same parent object or for the same purpose. Some properties are built into the system. Custom properties can be added to a system for your own purposes, for example, equipment codes, due dates, or project manager. Custom properties can be attached to workspaces, folder types, and document types. Custom properties appear on the property pages of the objects to which they are attached. Only system administrators and workspace administrators can create custom properties.

Each custom property can be one of the types described in Understanding the custom property types. The values of custom properties can be set by default or inherited.

Working with custom properties is described in the following topics.
